Before founding Architectural Management Ltd, Ian gained over 25 years experience in
the architectural profession and is a Chartered Architectural Technologist. He is a dedicated 
and committed professional, using his expertise to apply a finely honed understanding of the
technical requirements of a project, balanced with a sound economic approach to
planning and production.



Throughout his career, Ian's projects have been split equally between modern buildings and
his specialism of historic and listed buildings.

 

Conservation

Ian's experience has been gained with a number of the UK's most noted architectural practices.
Prior to founding Architectural Management Ltd, Ian worked with the UK's leading conservation practice, Purcell Miller Tritton, where he was a partner in the Colchester office. During this time
he had the privilege of working on projects at some of the country’s foremost heritage buildings
and sites, including many parish churches, Westminster Abbey, Colchester Castle and various
Crown Estate properties in London. In previous roles at Cecil Denny Highton and HOK International,
he worked on projects at other important buildings including The Foreign and Commonwealth Office,
the Old Admiralty Building, The Palace of Westminster and the Natural History Museum.



Over recent years Ian has been involved with the development of the Conservation Accreditation
for the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists and is an Accredited Member,
a qualification recognised by Historic England and Historic Scotland permitting work on Historic England Grant Aided projects and also for HLF grant projects.

 



Modern buildings

Ian has a considerable knowledge of modern buildings, materials and construction techniques,
gained through involvement with many traditional and Design and Build projects, including primary
and secondary schools, sixth form colleges, university buildings, adult education centres,
nursery and youth club facilities.



Overall experience

Ian's experience covers a broad range of project types, building typologies and procurement methods, including: 

  • Condition surveys on historic buildings, ecclesiastical/residential/commercial/industrial/public
  • Residential schemes for conversion, extension, one off houses and small developments
  • Church projects for repairs, reordering and extensions to churches and halls, including
    a new church in Colchester
  • School projects for reordering and extension, including nurseries, primary, secondary and sixth form
  • Repairs and adaptations to historic buildings
  • Healthcare schemes for day care centres and residential homes
  • Development of and extension to listed hotels and wedding venues
  • Mixed use developments
  • Alterations to museums
  • Historic Impact Assessments
  • Advice on development and options and feasibility studies for heritage sites and buildings
  • Alterations to improve accessibility to public buildings
