It has been a busy and exciting year, with many varied projects, so here is a quick roundup for 2019.

Our projects this year have covered London, Essex, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, Middlesex and Derbyshire, with a mix of architectural projects, heritage input and heritage statements.  We have also provided Expert Witness representation at a public hearing.

Our range of Heritage Statements, Impact Assessments and Statements of Significance continue with more than 40 reports being carried out this year.  These are both for the planning application stage and at Appeal.  The assessments cover a range of heritage assets from the effect upon Conservation Areas to direct and indirect effects upon Scheduled Monuments, Grade I, II* and Grade II and Locally Listed buildings.  We are also increasingly called upon to assess the impact of projects involving non designated heritage assets.  On many of these projects we were also engaged to provide the design team and clients with heritage advice and comments on design, including detail drawings and specifications.

Our long established relationship with church work continues with a multi phased project for repairs and internal alterations to a church in east London.

December 2018

 

It has been a year of change for us, with a relocation of our base from north Essex over the border into south Suffolk.  This enables us to better cover the geographical spread of our work, with improved travel opportunities around the country and into London.  Our work continues with many varied projects, so here is a quick roundup for 2018.

Our projects this year have covered London, Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire and Middlesex  with a mix of architectural projects, heritage input and heritage statements.  

Our range of Heritage Statements, Impact Assessments and Statements of Significance continue with more than 30 reports being carried out this year.  The assessments cover a range of heritage assets from the effect upon Conservation Areas to direct and indirect effects upon Scheduled Monuments, Grade I, II* and Grade II and Locally Listed buildings.  On many of these projects we were also engaged to provide the design team and clients with heritage advice and comments on design, including detail drawings and specifications.

It has been an interesting year, with many varied projects, so here is a quick roundup for 2017.

Our projects this year have covered London, Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Hertfordshire, Middlesex and Surrey.

Our Planning and Listed Building Consent successes during 2017 include:

  • Several phases of work to fully refurbish and upgrade a Grade II Listed village house in Hertfordshire.  Set overlooking the village green it is a prominent building in a sensitive location.
    The phases included separate Planning and Listed Building Consent applications according to programme reqirements.
    The design included:
    Four new bathrooms/en-suites

    Full external refurbishment of brickwork, roof, chimneys and windows
    A complete landscaping scheme with new drive, entrance and gates
    A new orangery
    Conversion of attached outbuildings into a new kitchen and breakfast/family room

     
  • Extension,remodelling and full refurbishment of a Grade II Listed country cottage in north Essex.  The design included:
    A new detached garage and workshop
    A new side extension for a boot room and lobby
    A new two storey rear extension to add a bedroom, relocated stairs and family room with inglenook fireplace

    The refurbishment included full repairs to the oak frame, replacement of all external render with lime render, replacement of all windows and remodelling of front and rear dormers, replacement of the concrete roof tiles with clay and new limecrete floors.

     
  • Alterations to a Grade II Listed farmhouse in Suffolk
     
  • Alterations to a consented scheme for conversion of a former plant nursery into a residential scheme in Suffolk
     

Projects on site this year have included:

  • Remodelling and extension of a cricket club pavilion
  • Repairs and refurbishment of a Grade II town house in Essex
  • Ongoing refurbishment of a Grade II village house in Hertfordshire and a Grade II country cottage in Essex
  • Rebuilding of a side extension and remodelling to form two new bedrooms and a bathroom at a country house in Essex

 

Our range of Heritage Statements, Impact Assessments and Statements of Significance continue again with around 30 reports being carried out this year.  The assessments cover a range of heritage assets from the effect upon Conservation Areas to direct and indirect effects upon Scheduled Monuments, Grade I, II* and Grade II and Locally Listed buildings.  Projects include:

  • Barn conversions for residential use.
  • Conversion of a former maltings into offices.
  • Changes of use.
  • New residential developments in and around villages, mostly where heritage assets are affected, ranging from developments of 250 units to just a few.
  • Refurbishment of a pub into a hotel
  • Offices and flats conversions
  • Various alterations and extensions to Listed houses across East Anglia and London
  • Conversion of a former Nursing Home 
  • Rectification of unregulated work to Listed buildings

On many of these projects we were also engaged to provide the design team and clients with heritage advice and comments on design, including detail drawings and specifications.

We also had the pleasure of offering advice for repairs and maintenance of a modern Grade II Listed house, dating from 1968, designed by a very famous leading architect.

It has been too long since we have updated our list of projects and successes for this year, so here is a quick roundup for 2016.

Our Planning and Listed Building Consent successes during 2016 include:

  • Extensions to a Listed former Mill House near Dunmow
  • Remodelling and extension to a cricket club pavilion
  • New building for two glass Padel Tennis courts at a sports and leisure complex
  • Replacement dwelling on a country estate
  • Repairs and extensions/alterations to several Listed farmhouses in Essex, Suffolk and Hertfordshire
  • Extensive remodelling and new basement to a 1920’s house in Suffolk
  • Extensions to a countryside house on Mersea Island

 

Our range of Heritage Statements, Impact Assessments and Statements of Significance continue to grow with around 30 reports being carried out this year.  The assessments cover a range of heritage assets from the effect upon Conservation Areas to direct and indirect effects upon Scheduled Monuments, Grade I, II* and Grade II and Locally Listed buildings.  Projects include:

  • Barn conversions for residential use and as wedding venues.
  • Conversions of pubs into dwellings
  • Conversion of former Police Station into flats
  • New residential developments in and around villages, mostly where heritage assets are affected, ranging from developments of 75 units to just a few, across Essex, Suffolk, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
  • New retail premises and flats in a town site in Herts
  • New biomass heating system to a Listed country estate comprising an hotel and 8 cottages
  • Various alterations and extensions to Listed houses across East Anglia and London
  • Alterations to the grounds of a Listed school near Colchester and repairs to a Listed school near Harwich
  • Two new primary schools in Essex
  • Rectification of unregulated work to Listed buildings

On many of these projects we were also engaged to provide the design team and clients with heritage advice and comments on design, including detail drawings and specifications.

During the summer we were commissioned to assist with the refurbishment of a ringing chamber and removal, refurbishment and re-installation of a peel of 8 bells at a Grade II Listed church in Essex.

We also have the interesting prospect of offering advice for repairs and maintenance of a modern Grade II Listed house, dating from 1968, designed by a very famous leading architect.

  •  new large kitchen extension and utility room to a large family house near Chelmsford

 

  •  new larger kitchen, bathroom, entrance porch and conversion of outbuildings to form a day room at a Listed farmhouse near Dunmow

 

  •  new 40 x 20m horse exercise arena and four new stables, feed and tack rooms in open countryside in north Essex

 

  •  new front extension to a Victorian Gothic former school house near Chelmsford

 

  •  internal alterations to a Listed dwelling near Southend

We are delighted to be working with Nicholas Jacob Architects as heritage consultants for the conversion and refurbishment of the Crescent and Pump Room in Buxton, Derbyshire.  This grand and exciting project will transform the building into a luxury hotel and spa facility.

 

June 2014

 

Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent for change of use to a dwelling and a two storey exposed oak framed extension to a Grade II Listed former public house in Middlesex.

Planning Permission for two 4 - 5 bedroom georgian style detached houses in the Colchester district.

Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent received for a two storey extension to a 17th Century timber framed farmhouse in the Uttlesford district.

We are delighted to be working with the Victoria and Albert Museum on a historic appraisal and condition survey of some of the oldest and most historically important parts of the museum in Kensington.

 

Please look at our projects pages to see some more of our new projects, including the conversion and extension of a former public house in Middlesex.  This seventeenth century timber framed listed building is being revitalised and given a sustainable future via this exciting project.

  

We have also added new sections for our condition survey projects and our ever growing specialist consultancy portfolio of Heritage Impact Assessments and Statements of Significance.

  

We are delighted to have received an award for the reordering and refurbishment at St Hughs church, Churchgate St, Old Harlow.

 

May 2013

 

The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has launched Heritage Enterprise, a pioneering new funding programme designed to stimulate local economic growth by unlocking the commercial potential of unused historic buildings and sites.

 

Our CIAT Conservation Accreditation is recognised by the HLF in allowing us to apply for and work on HLF Grant funded projects.

GREAT NEWS: English Heritage and Historic Scotland have recognised MCIAT Accredited Conservationists for working on their Grant Aided projects.
