Heritage Assessments
We are regularly commissioned to undertake assessments of the impact of new development adjacent to heritage assets, or redevelopment of historic buildings, or to assess the significance of a particular item or feature. These reports, usually referred to as a Heritage Statement or Historic Impact Assessment are required when a Listed Building or Scheduled Ancient Monument application is made and where a project is in a Conservation Area. It combines an appraisal of the history of the building or site, its current condition/situation and an assessment of how the building or setting will be affected by the work.
Part of the assessment can include a Statement of Significance, or occasionally this is carried out in isolation.
Our assessments, covering London, Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Sussex, Kent, Lincolnshire, Hertfordshire, Middlesex and Derbyshire have included;
- many new housing development shemes which may affect heritage assets
- historic barn conversion schemes to residential and other alternative use such as a wedding venue
- the effect of new primary school developments on nearby heritage assets
- change of redundant public houses into residential use
- conversion of large industrial buildings into alternative uses such as flats and offices
- heritage support for appeals
